Texas Wesleyan Secures Top Seed in SAC Tournament

Lady Rams earn top spot with first conference crown since 2005

OKLAHOMA CITY – Texas Wesleyan reeled in the No. 1 seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball tournament. 

Texas Wesleyan (23-5, 18-2 SAC) clashes with Science & Arts at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Fort Worth, Texas, the conference tournament quarterfinals. The Lady Rams collected their first SAC regular-season championship and first conference title since winning the Red River Athletic Conference crown in 2005. 

The Lady Rams enter the SAC Tournament with a winning streak of 14 matches. Wayland Baptist dealt Texas Wesleyan its last loss Sept. 25 in Plainview, Texas. 

Oklahoma City University took its fifth SAC Tournament championship in a row April 9 against Texas Wesleyan 18-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-22 at Abe Lemons Arena in Oklahoma City. OCU and Texas Wesleyan have battled for the conference tournament title the last four years. 

The SAC Tournament quarterfinals will be contested Tuesday on campus sites within the league hosted by the higher seed. The tournament shifts to Oklahoma City's Abe Lemons Arena for the semifinals and championship Nov. 12-13. The league tournament champion can earn a spot in the NAIA Championship Opening Round on Nov. 20.
