Southwestern Assemblies of God Takes Top Seed in SAC Tournament

Conference tournament tips off Wednesday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Southwestern Assemblies of God collected the No. 1 seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference men’s basketball tournament, which opens Wednesday with quarterfinal games.

The Lions, ranked ninth among the NAIA, meet Panhandle State (5-6) at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the quarterfinals. Southwestern Assemblies of God (9-1) took the conference regular-season championship.

In the quarters, No. 2 seed Science & Arts of Oklahoma (14-2) gets Southwestern Christian (5-8), third seed Wayland Baptist (7-4) collides with John Brown (7-6) and fourth-seeded Mid-America Christian (9-3) faces Texas Wesleyan (10-4).

Tournament games take place at the higher seeded teams’ home arenas. Semifinal action is set for Saturday, Feb. 27, and the championship contest will be Tuesday, March 2.

Southwestern Assemblies of God is the defending SAC Tournament champion. The Lions won 66-51 over John Brown on March 7, 2020 in Plainview, Texas, to capture the conference tournament crown. Tournament most valuable player Joshua Kashila boosted Southwestern Assemblies of God with 19 points and five steals.

The SAC oversight committee set the tournament seeds.
