OKLAHOMA CITY – Texas Wesleyan snared the Sooner Athletic Conference's football defensive player of the week and the special teams player of the week after an unprecedented win Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas.
The conference honored TyQuandrik Conner as defensive player of the week and Gregory Blaser as special teams of the week after leading the Rams to a 35-28 win over Arizona Christian, ranked 15th in the NAIA. Austin McCullough of OUAZ became SAC offensive player of the week for the sixth time in his career.
Offensive player of the week: Austin McCullough | Sr. | QB | Ridgecrest, Calif.
Austin McCullough directed the Spirit to a record-setting outburst of 652 yards total offense in a 76-10 win over Lyon on Saturday in Surprise, Ariz. McCullough piled up 391 yards and five touchdowns through the air on 22-of-30 passing. McCullough completed 12 consecutive passes and connected with 11 receivers.

Defensive player of the week: TyQuandrik Conner | Sr. | LB | Abilene, Texas
TyQuandrik Conner turned the tide for the Rams twice, going back-to-back on interceptions in consecutive defensive stands. The second INT set up the go-ahead touchdown in the first half, while his fumble recovery set up the game-tying score in the fourth quarter. Conner contributed four tackles as Texas Wesleyan overcame a 15-point second-half deficit for the Rams' first season-opening win since the program returned a few years ago after a three-fourths of a century hiatus.

Special teams player of the week: Gregory Blaser | Sr. | K-P | Cypress, Texas
Gregory Blaser was clutch for the Rams in the field-position battle Saturday. Blaser pinned the Firestorm inside their own 20-yard line three times, including one at the Arizona Christian 3-yard line and one at the 12-yard line. Blaser averaged 38.3 yards per punt on six kicks.
