OKLAHOMA CITY – After leading Mid-America Christian to a comeback win on Saturday, senior forward Ossyana Ozoani has been selected as the Sooner Athletic Conference player of the week for Dec. 27-Jan. 2.

The Oklahoma City native is earning her first SAC weekly award of her five-year Evangels career and is the first MACU player to receive the honor during the 2021-22 campaign.

In the 71-58 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God, Ozoani poured in a career-high 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting and went 7-for-14 from the foul line. The 5-10 forward also had a career day both on the glass and in the defense as she finished with 19 rebounds to go along with five steals.

Ozoani’s 19 boards rank as the second-most recorded in a single game for an Evangels player since the program joined the SAC and NAIA in 2007. Ozoani finished just one rebound shy of tying D’Shana Culberson’s record of 20 that was notched in a 98-90 double overtime win over John Brown on Jan. 7, 2016.

So far this season, Ozoani ranks second in the SAC and 12th in the NAIA in rebounds per game at 11.5 while her 58.1 percent field goal clip also sits second in the league. Ozoani is MACU’s leading scorer with 176 points at a 13.5 per game rate.

Other nominees: Thamires Andrade, SW Christian; Jaycie Brisco, SW Assemblies of God; Tarrah Stephens, John Brown; Hailee Walls, Texas Wesleyan.
