OKLAHOMA CITY – Presented by Barnes & Noble College, the Sooner Athletic Conference unveiled its 2021-22 scholar-athletes for men’s and women’s soccer on Monday as 136 student-athletes received the distinguished honor.
To be eligible for SAC scholar-athlete accolades, a student-athlete must be at least a junior in academic standing while maintaining no lower than a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average. Athletes also must have attended the nominating institution for at least two years as a non-transfer or one year as a transfer and be on the program’s NAIA eligibility certificate.
Overall, 71 student-athletes were represented on the women’s side while 65 men earned scholar-athlete acclaim.
In men’s soccer, Southwestern Christian boasted the most scholar-athletes with a total of 17 while Mid-America Christian and Wayland Baptist each finished in double-figures with 13 apiece.
Of the eight honorees that have maintained a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average in their collegiate careers, all of which came from the Eagles’ and Evangels’ men’s soccer programs with four each.
On the women’s side, Mid-America Christian led the charge with 15 honorees while Southwestern Christian tallied 13 spots and Oklahoma City finished with 10.
In total, 11 women wrapped up the year with a 4.0 GPA as five Eagles and four Evangels made up the elite academic class.
