OKLAHOMA CITY – John Brown became the favorite to take the Sooner Athletic Conference women’s soccer title according to the preseason coaches poll.
SAC coaches gave the No. 1 spot to John Brown to the tune of 80 points and eight top votes. The Golden Eagles (18-2, 9-0 SAC in 2021) own the past two SAC regular-season titles and tournament crowns.
John Brown has gone 20-0-1 in SAC play since falling to Texas Wesleyan on Oct. 24, 2019 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Science & Arts reeled in the second spot in the poll. The Drovers collected 74 points and the other two top votes from the league coaches. John Brown prevailed 2-1 in double overtime over Science & Arts for the SAC Tournament championship Nov. 12 in Siloam Springs, Ark.
Mid-America Christian picked up 61 points to take third, and Oklahoma City University took 50 points for the fourth slot. Fifth-place Wayland Baptist followed closely with 49 points, while No. 6 Texas Wesleyan had 47 points.
Central Christian had 37 points to be seventh. Southwestern Christian (21 points), Southwestern Assemblies of God (17) and Panhandle State (14) closed out the poll.
The SAC Tournament takes place Nov. 4-10. The NAIA Championship Opening Round happens Nov. 17-19, while the NAIA Championships will be Nov. 29-Dec. 5 in Orange Beach, Ala.
