Amos from Texas Wesleyan Highlights All-SAC Team

Lady Rams land player of year, defensive honors, sportsmanship award and coach of year from SAC

OKLAHOMA CITY – Kertisa Amos of Texas Wesleyan snared Sooner Athletic Conference women’s basketball player of the year. 

SAC regular-season champion Texas Wesleyan garnered defensive player of the year (Amos), the John Hudson coach of the year (Brenita Jackson) and the sportsmanship award (Makayla Coy).  

Other SAC honorees were Mid-America Christian’s Shy Christopher (newcomer of the year), Southwestern Christian’s Jayden Mason (freshman of the year) and Science & Arts’ Trinitee Alexander (sixth woman of the year). 

Amos has fueled Texas Wesleyan with 15.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.54 steals per game this season. Amos, a 5-foot-9 senior from Burleson, Texas, made the all-conference first team for the second consecutive year. Amos had season highs with 34 points at North Texas Dallas, 12 rebounds at Southwestern Assemblies of God and seven thefts vs. UNT Dallas. She became conference player of the week for Nov. 28-Dec. 4.  

Jackson took league coach of the year for the second consecutive year. Jackson directed the Lady Rams to their first conference championship since 1989-90, when Texas Wesleyan won the Heart of Texas Conference title. No. 17-ranked Texas Wesleyan has been among the NAIA’s top 20 the previous three polls. The Lady Rams (24-4) have compiled back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 2009-13. Jackson has led Texas Wesleyan to a 49-11 mark in her second year. 

Christopher has accumulated 18.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.47 steals a game this campaign. Christopher, a 5-7 sophomore from Jacksonville, Ark., has totaled 28 points at Science & Arts and 10 rebounds against Southwestern Assemblies of God. She has reached 20 points 11 times. She snagged two weekly honors from the conference in 2022-23. 

Mason has turned in 8.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.33 steals a contest on the season. Mason, a 5-7 freshman from Stillwater, Okla., put together a season-high 20 points against Texas Wesleyan as well as eight rebounds and 11 assists vs. Wayland Baptist. 

Alexander has supplied Science & Arts with averages of 10.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.15 steals while shooting 51.1 percent from the field. Alexander, a 6-foot sophomore from Everman, Texas, has had season highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds.  

The first team was comprised of Amos, Christopher, Jenna Cooper-Jackson of Wayland Baptist, Science & Arts’ Lainey Morrow and Tarrah Stephens from John Brown. Jackson, a senior from Claude, Texas, became a three-time first-team selection.
