Week 3: Softball Players of the Week

Oklahoma City – For the second week in a row, one Sooner Athletic Conference institution swept the Oklahoma Ford player of the week awards. This week it was the Oklahoma City University Stars that shone brightest on the diamond. Kaitlyn Jones was given the player of the week award and Shelbey Cornelson got the nod as the pitcher of the week.

Player of the week: Kaitlyn Jones |OF | Sr. |Edmond, Okla.

Senior Kaitlyn Jones had a solid weekend on the diamond for the Stars, helping her team to a sweep of Friends University. The Edmond, Oklahoma native, hit .500, going 3 for 6, and had a slugging percentage of 1.000. In the series opener, she went 2 for3 with a homerun and a pair of RBI.

Pitcher of the week: Shelbey Cornelson | P | Sr. | Tuttle, Okla.

Cornelson picks up her second player the week award this season, going 1-0 on the weekend against Friends University. Her only appearance was the start in game one of the series. She was brilliant, allowing just one run on five hits, fanning 11, and allowing just one walk in seven innings pitched. She finished with an ERA of 1.00.
