Oklahoma City Claims Second Straight SAC Men's Soccer Tournament Title with a 2-1 Overtime Win Over John Brown

Oklahoma City – For the second consecutive season, Oklahoma City claimed the 2025 Sooner Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament Championship with a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 2 seed John Brown on Monday evening at Brian Harvey Field in Oklahoma City.

The first 45 minutes were a defensive battle between the two teams as John Brown maintained a 7-5 advantage in shots, with both teams putting two shots on frame. The Golden Eagles cracked the scoreboard first in the 58th minute as Atim Roper scored off a pass from Gabriel Cabrera to put John Brown on top 1-0. The Stars evened the match in the 61st minute as Francisco Miquel converted a penalty kick after a Golden Eagles foul in the 18-yard box to make the score 1-1. The score remained that way for the final 29 minutes as the teams went to extra time for the second consecutive year in the tournament.

The first part of the extra session saw the defensive battle continue, but Oklahoma City was able to break through with 1:11 left in the first overtime as Henrique Duarte took a header from Ethan Taylor and slotted a shot past the John Brown goalkeeper into the left side of the goal to give the Stars their second tournament title in program history.

Oklahoma City outshot John Brown 13-9 in the contest as Miquel, Taylor, and Duarte each had three shots apiece, while Alexis Bertrand earned the win in goal for the Stars with three saves on the night as the Stars improved to 14-3-4 on the year. Roper and Kendal Madrigal paced the Golden Eagles’ attack with two shots each as John Brown finished the season with an overall record of 12-4-4.
