Oklahoma City – Elena Kagiali of Panhandle State has been named the Sooner Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning. Kagiali also earned the Attacker of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards, which the league’s coaches voted on.
Nick Moore of Nelson earned the conference Coach of the Year honor, while JD Boyd of Texas Wesleyan was honored with the Assistant Coach of the Year award.
Natalie Adams of Oklahoma City earned the Setter of the Year award, while Sydney Alexander of Texas Wesleyan claimed the Defender of the Year honor, with Seyi Atolagbe of Mid-America Christian earning the Freshman of the Year award.
Kagiali led the conference in kills with 456 for an average of 4.04 kills per set, while also leading the SAC in points with an average of 4.55 points per set. Kagiali also had 35 service aces on the year while adding 27 assists, and 375 digs to her stat line for the season.
Adams paced the conference with 1,169 assists this year for an average of 10.44 assists per set, while also tying for first in the league with 62 service aces for an average of 0.55 aces per set.
Alexander was second in the conference with 120 total blocks for an average of 1.07 per set, while finishing eighth in points with 3.11 points per set this season.
Atolagbe led the league with a hitting percentage of .391, recording 250 kills on 540 total attacks with 39 errors throughout the year.
Moore led the Lions to a part of the regular season title with an overall record of 25-9 and a conference mark of 20-2 before winning the conference tournament title.
Boyd was a part of the Texas Wesleyan coaching staff that helped the Rams in sharing the league’s regular season title with an overall record of 25-7 and a conference mark of 20-2 before finishing as the league’s runner-up in the tournament.
