Giron, Cunningham, and Polk Highlight 2025 SAC Football All-Conference Awards

McLaughlin Earns Coach of the Year Honors

Oklahoma City – Luke Giron of OUAZ has been named the 2025 Sooner Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, while Datlan Cunningham of Louisiana Christian earned Athlete of the Year as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon. 
 
Kylon Polk of Louisiana Christian earned the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award, while David Zeller of Panhandle State garnered the conference Special Teams Player of the Year. Bryce Perkins of Louisiana Christian earned the league’s Newcomer of the Year award, with Polk gaining the conference Freshman of the Year honor. Louisiana Christian head coach Ben McLaughlin was named the 2025 SAC Coach of the Year.
 
Giron led the conference in passing efficiency (147.4) and in yards per game (227.3), while also leading the league with 22 touchdown passes. Giron was 133-of-248 through the air for a completion percentage of 53.6 to lead the Spirit to a share of the conference championship.
 
Cunningham was second in the conference in rushing by averaging 83.5 yards per contest and led the league in yards with 918. Cunningham had 201 carries this season and was tied for the top spot with 11 touchdown rushes.
 
Polk aided the Wildcats to a share of the league championship by leading the country with 11 interceptions this season. Polk also added 116 return yards and brought two picks to the endzone for touchdowns. Polk also had six pass breakups this season.
 
Zeller led the conference in kick returns, recording 12 for 475 yards and three touchdowns. Zeller averaged 39.6 yards per return on the season.
 
Perkins finished the season by going 155-of-289 through the air for 2,262 yards and 21 touchdowns, which was second in the league. Perkins averaged 205.6 yards per game and had a passing efficiency rating of 135.7.
 
McLaughlin led the Wildcats to an overall record of 8-3 and a league mark of 7-1, which was good enough to give Louisiana Christian a share of the SAC title with OUAZ and Texas Wesleyan.
