23 Men’s Basketball Student-Athletes Garner SAC Scholar-Athlete Nods

Pioneers pave the way with eight scholar-athlete honorees

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Sooner Athletic Conference released its men’s basketball scholar-athletes, presented by Barnes & Noble College for the 2020-21 academic year as 23 honorees were selected on Wednesday.

To garner SAC scholar-athlete honors, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average while appearing on the eligibility certificate for an NAIA-recognized sport. The recipient must have also attended the nominating institution for two full years as an incoming freshman or one full year as a transfer as well as be at least a junior by academic standing.

Wayland Baptist excelled academically, producing more than a third of the honorees with eight scholar-athlete recipients while John Brown and Southwestern Christian notched three apiece.

The Pioneers also had three of the four players in the SAC that have maintained a 4.0 GPA in their collegiate careers as Tre Fillmore, Josh Servantes and Thad Udoh joined Panhandle State’s Alfred Alkannama on that list.
