OKLAHOMA CITY – Twenty-nine men’s and women’s cross country runners from around the league earned the Sooner Athletic Conference scholar-athlete honor as presented by Barnes & Noble College for 2021-22.
To achieve the distinction, student-athletes within the conference must be juniors or above in academic standing with at least a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average, appear on the eligibility certificate for an NAIA-recognized sport and have attended two full years as a non-transfer or one full year as a transfer.
Texas Wesleyan collected the most SAC scholar-athlete awards with three as 10 men’s student-athletes took the award. John Brown led the conference with seven women’s recipients among the 19 women’s runners who became SAC scholar-athletes.
Three student-athletes from among the group own 4.0 cumulative GPAs – John Brown’s Avery Edwards and Sarah Smith as well as Wayland Baptist’s Michaela Phipps.
