Week 5: Track & Field Athletes of Week

Veals rakes in fourth consecutive weekly honor from SAC

OKLAHOMA CITY – Chasity Veals of Langston garnered her fourth consecutive Oklahoma Ford Dealers Sooner Athletic Conference women’s field athlete of the week. 

For April 10-16, Tajean Houston from Texas Wesleyan snared SAC runner of the week for the second week in a row and third weekly award from the league of the season. The Rams swept both the track awards this week with Jamarrion Reed becoming the field athlete of the week, while Texas Wesleyan’s Sarays Flores racked up women’s runner of the week. 


Men’s runner of the week: Tajean Houston | Jr. | Kingston, Jamaica 

Tajean Houston raced to the finest time in the 110-meter hurdles among the NAIA this season (13.87 seconds) in the McMurry Warhawk Classic in Abilene, Texas. Houston recorded a new personal best and Rams record. Houston also ran the leadoff leg for the men’s 4x100-meter relay that won the meet and made the A standard list with a mark of 41.16 seconds. Texas Wesleyan's relay team set a school record.

Men’s field athlete of the week: Jamarrion Reed | So. | Ruston, La. 

Jamarrion Reed won the high jump in the McMurry Warhawk Classic over the weekend with a jump of 6 feet, 9¾ inches. His mark established a school record while tying for the second best mark in the NAIA and ranks No. 1 in the SAC for 2022-23.

Women’s runner of the week: Sarays Flores | Fr. | Arlington, Texas 

Sarays Flores won the 10,000 meters in the Warhawk Classic with a time of 41:22, which tops the SAC this season.

Women’s field athlete of the week: Chasity Veals | Jr. | Richardson, Texas 

Chasity Veals joined the A standard qualifying list for the NAIA Championships in the long jump with her jump of 18 feet, 10½ inches in the Oklahoma Sooner Invitational & Multis over the weekend in Norman, Okla. Veals took 10th place in the meet while ranking 10th this season among the NAIA. Her previous high in the long jump during the outdoor season was 17 feet, 11¾ inches in the K.T. Woodman Classic.
