OKLAHOMA CITY – After winning its 29th consecutive game to close out the regular season, Oklahoma City will enter the 2024 Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament as the top seed in the championship that will begin Thursday, May 2. The double elimination tournament will be contested at both Oklahoma City and Science & Arts with the title game being played on Saturday, May 4.
The Stars claimed their 12th regular season crown in gaining the No. 1 seed in the tournament while Science & Arts claimed the No. 2 in the championship. Mid-America Christian will enter the post-season tournament as the No. 3 seed with Southwestern Christian earning the No. 4 seed.
The Stars enter the tournament as the No. 2 team in the final NAIA National Coaches Top 25 with an overall record of 48-2 and a conference mark of 35-1. They will host the top bracket of the tournament and will take on No. 8 seed Southwestern Assemblies of God on Thursday at 11 a.m. The Lions join the field with an overall record of 14-36 and a conference mark of 8-28 after winning the tiebreaker over Central Christian. Oklahoma City swept the Lions in their regular season series.
In the second game of the top bracket at Oklahoma City, No. 4 seed Southwestern Christian will take on No. 5 seed Wayland Baptist at 1 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles come into the tournament with an overall record of 24-23 and hold a 20-16 mark in league play. The Pioneers join the field with an overall mark of 22-28 and a conference record of 18-18. The two teams split their regular season series this past weekend.
The bottom portion of the bracket will be played at Science & Arts starting at 11 a.m. with the No. 6 nationally ranked Drovers earning the second seed in the tournament with an overall record of 41-7 and a league mark of 31-5 as Science & Arts have won their last 22 games. The Drovers will take on the No. 7 seed Panhandle State as the Aggies join the field with an overall record of 15-34 and a league mark of 12-24. Science & Arts swept Panhandle State this past weekend in their final series of the season.
The second game in the bottom bracket will start at 1 p.m. with No. 3 Mid-America Christian facing off against No. 6 seed Texas Wesleyan. The Evangels received votes in the final Top 25 poll with an overall record of 34-13 and a conference mark of 27-9. The Rams join the field with an overall mark of 23-25 and a league record of 16-20. MACU won the regular season series with three wins in late March.
The championship game is slated to be played on Saturday, May 4, starting at 3 p.m. at either Oklahoma City or Science & Arts.
