Oklahoma City – The Championship game is set for the 2024 Sooner Athletic Conference Softball Championship as top seed Oklahoma City and No. 2 seed Science & Arts completed their respective brackets undefeated to set up the highly anticipated contest. The title game will be played at Ann Lacy Stadium on Sunday with the first pitch set for 3 p.m.
No. 4 Southwestern Christian 9, No. 5 Wayland Baptist 8 (10 Innings – WBU Eliminated)
The Eagles needed to work extra innings as the Pioneers scored four runs in the top of the seventh to tie the contest before Southwestern Christian plated a run in the bottom of the 10
th inning to eliminate the Pioneers 9-8.
Wayland Baptist opened the scoring with a run in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead but the Eagles answered with a four-run third frame to take a 4-1 advantage. The Pioneers scored runs in the next three innings to even the game at 4-4 while Southwestern Christian regained the lead with another four runs in the home half of the sixth to make the score 8-4. Wayland then came to bat in the top of the seventh and promptly scored four runs to force extra frames with the score tied at 8-8. The Eagles claimed the victory as they scored a run off a throwing error to gain the win.
Amber Poorbaugh paced the Pioneers bats with a pair of hits and four runs batted in while Reagan Davis had three hits and scored two runs. Shakyrah Gladness led the way for the Eagles with two hits and three runs batted in while Hannah Keele had three hits and a pair of runs scored.
No. 1 Oklahoma City 8, No. 4 Southwestern Christian 0 (5 innings – SCU Eliminated)
The second-ranked team in the country wasted no time as the Stars opened the game with four runs in the opening inning and cruised to an 8-0 victory over the Eagles in an elimination game.
The Stars scored runs in all but one inning in the contest while holding Southwestern Christian to only four hits in the win. Keele had two of the Eagles four hits in the contest while Baileigh Loux scattered three hits with three runs batted in to pace the Oklahoma City attack. Kaitlyn Jones added two hits while scoring twice in the contest.
Emerson Heron earned her 23
rd win of the season in going four innings while Shelbey Cornelson tossed the final frame in relief.
No. 3 Mid-America Christian 5, No. 6 Texas Wesleyan 0 (Texas Wesleyan Eliminated)
The Evangels limited the Rams to four hits as they scattered eight hits themselves to earn a 5-0 win over Texas Wesleyan in an elimination game.
Mid-America Christian scored runs in the second, third, and fourth frames while adding a pair of insurance runs in the fifth to advance in the tournament. Haylie Delarosa led the rams with two hits in the loss while Brooklyn Wilson paced the Evangels with a hit and two runs batted in. Avery Schneringer earned the win in the circle for Mid-American Christian as she had five strikeouts in improving her record to 11-3 on the year.
No. 2 Science & Arts 8, No. 3 Mid-America Christian 0 (6 innings – Mid-America Christian Eliminated)
The Drovers scored six runs in the first two innings and closed out the contest with a pair of runs in the sixth to defeat the Evangels 8-0 and advance to the championship game.
The sixth-ranked team in the country opened the game with four runs in the first inning and then added two runs in the second to take an early 6-0 lead as they held the Mid-America Christian bats to only four hits.
Sierra Selfridge led the Drovers attack with two hits and four runs batted in while Sophie Williams added two RBIs and Malea McMurtrey chipped in with three hits and three runs scored to give Science & Arts the win. Sophie Williams tossed the first three innings to pick up her 25
th win of the year.
