Nelson Men and Women Hold Leads After the Second Day of the 2026 SAC Track and Field Championships Presented by Digital Scoreboards

Waxahachie, Texas – Nelson University battled hot and humid conditions to take the lead in both team races at the 2026 Sooner Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships presented by Digital Scoreboards at the Lions Athletic Complex in Waxahachie, Texas, after the first two days of competition on Friday evening.
 
The Lions men’s team scored 83 points to take a 13-point lead over Texas Wesleyan, which has 70 points. Oklahoma City is close by in third place with 66 points, while defending champions Wayland Baptist are in fourth with 61 points, with John Brown holding the fifth position with 53 points.
 
Nelson’s women’s squad is in control of the team battle with 80 points, while Oklahoma City is close by with 72 points. Wayland Baptist sits in the third spot with 57 points, while defending champions John Brown are in fourth place with 56 points. Langston is in the fifth position, just one point behind the Golden Eagles.
 
The multi-events highlighted the first two days of the championship with Lonnie Irving of Wayland Baptist scoring 5574 points to claim the decathlon title. Mogan Wood of College of the Ozarks earned the Heptathlon crown by scoring 4034 points and winning three events to help her to the top spot.
 
The final day of the championship meet will begin on Saturday, April 25, with field events beginning at 11 a.m., while the running events will start at 2 p.m.
