OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University strives for its sixth consecutive conference title, while Sarah Olamide looks for her second individual crown in a row in the Sooner Athletic Conference women's cross country championships Saturday at Woodson Park.
The women's 5,000-meter run starts 10:30 a.m. Saturday. OCU, ranked 23rd in the NAIA, hosts the conference meet at Woodson Park for the third year in a row. Spectators can attend the meet who observe Oklahoma City public safety ordinances.
Oklahoma City took its sixth consecutive SAC championship Nov. 9, 2019 at Woodson Park. Olamide, a sophomore from Lagos, Nigeria, crossed the finish in 18 minutes, 27.4 seconds to lead eight Stars who earned all-SAC accolades. Olamide became an all-American with a top-10 national finish.
The Stars collected three of the top five spots and five of the top 10 finishes in the 2019 SAC Championships. OCU returns all-SAC performers Kaitlyn Heffernan (third place last season), Madison Altom (10th), Macey Currie (12th) and Anna Mitchell (14th).
John Brown’s Allika Pearson returns to compete for the individual title. Pearson, a junior from Siloam Springs, Ark., collected runner-up in the 2019 SAC Championships. Pearson recorded the best time by a Golden Eagle (18:38) in the meet. Pearson enters the SAC Championships with wins in her past three races in 2020-21.
