OKLAHOMA CITY – After winning their first regular season title in program history, Mid-America Christian will be the top seed in the 2024 Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Championships slated to begin Friday, May 3. The tournament will take place at both Science & Arts and Oklahoma City.
The Evangels have won 10 of its last 11 games en route to claiming the No. 1 seed while Oklahoma City will be the No. 2 seed after winning the tiebreaker over No. 3 seed Science & Arts. Texas Wesleyan closes out the top four seed after the Rams garnered the No. 4 seed.
In the top bracket that will be played at Science & Arts, Mid-America Christian will open play in the tournament against No. 8 seed Panhandle State on Friday at 11 a.m. The Evangels enter post-season play as the No. 14 team in the final NAIA Coaches Top 25 with an overall record of 36-10 and a league mark of 20-4. The Aggies join the field with an overall mark of 14-31 and a conference record of 5-18. Mid-America Christian swept their regular season series over the Aggies 3-0.
In the second game of the top bracket, the host Drovers earned the No. 3 seed and will face off against No. 5 seed Wayland Baptist on Friday starting at 2:30 p.m. Science & Arts are receiving votes in the latest Top 25 poll with an overall record of 31-14 and a conference record of 17-7. The Pioneers enter the tournament with an overall mark of 22-26 and carry a league record of 11-13. The Drovers took all three of the regular season contests against Wayland Baptist.
In the bottom part of the bracket that will be played at Oklahoma City, the host Stars will open tournament play against No. 7 seed Southwestern Christian on Friday at 11 a.m. Oklahoma City is currently No. 22 in the final Top 25 poll with an overall mark of 32-15 and a league mark of 17-7. The Eagles come into tournament action with an overall record of 27-21 and a league record of 9-15. The Stars won two of the three regular season contests over Southwestern Christian.
In the final opening-round game at Oklahoma City, No. 4 seed Texas Wesleyan with take on No. 6 seed Southwestern Assemblies of God on Friday at 2:30 p.m. The Rams are also receiving votes in the final Top 25 poll with an overall record of 27-18 and a league mark of 15-9. The Lions join the tournament field with an overall mark of 25-24 and a conference record of 11-13. The Rams swept the three-game series against SAGU back in early March.
The championship game will be played on Monday, May 6 starting at 1 p.m. at a site that will be determined.
