Lewiston, Idaho – As they head to the midway mark at the 69
th Annual Avista NAIA Baseball World Series, Mid-America Christian will continue their quest for a Red Banner as they will restart an elimination game with Taylor on Wednesday, May 27, at 11 a.m. CT. The game is currently tied at 4-4 with Taylor batting in the top of the fifth with two outs.
The Evangels opened tournament action with a 7-3 victory over Doane this past Friday, with Cole Krepcik leading the MACU attack by going 5-for-5 at the plate that included a home run. Krepcik started a four-run uprising in the fourth frame with his round-tripper, while Frankie Giacalone followed up with a home run of his own to give the Evangels a 2-1 advantage. Elijah Lee had one of his three runs batted in on a sacrifice bunt, and Sammy Hallada drove in a run with a single to give MACU a 4-1 edge.
Doane would then plate a pair of runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 4-3 before the Evangels broke the game open as Lee drove in a pair of runs with a single to right center and Dyson Kinnaman scored on a fielding error to put Mid-America Christian ahead 7-3.
The Evangels would then fall in heartbreaking fashion in a winner’s bracket contest against William Carey on Monday, as the Crusaders scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to claim a 6-5 win that sent MACU into the bottom of the bracket.
After the game was tied at 3-3 heading into the seventh frame, Krepcik broke the tie with a sacrifice fly that scored Jalen King, and Tuane Cope singled through the right side to score Nick Hill, which gave the Evangels a 5-3 edge. The score stayed that way until William Carey walked the game off with a bases-clearing triple to win the contest 6-5.
The contest with Taylor was suspended at the top of the fifth inning with the teams tied at 4-4. The Trojans will start with runners on first and third with two outs in the frame.
The winner of this elimination game will move on to play on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. CT.
