Gonzalez Earns NAIA Baseball First Team All-American Honors

Hill and Vela Named to the All-American Second Team

Oklahoma City – Ibrahim Gonzalez of Mid-America Christian is one of 17 players named to the NAIA Baseball All-American First-Team that was announced by the national office last week. Gonzalez is joined on the All-American list by two other Sooner Athletic Conference players.
 
Both Nick Hill of Mid-America Christian and Brendon Vela of Texas Wesleyan were named to the Second-Team All-American list.
 
Gonzalez was named the conference Pitcher of the Year after leading the Evangels to the SAC Tournament Championship and a run that saw Mid-America Christian advance deep into the NAIA tournament. Gonzalez led the league with a 1.91 earned run average in finishing the season with a 10-2 record while tossing six complete games. Gonzalez had 86 strikeouts during the year and held opposing teams to a .216 batting average.
 
Hill earned the conference Newcomer of the Year award with a .350 batting average and was tops in the league with a .798 slugging percentage. Hill paced the conference with 67 runs batted in and was second in runs scored with 56.
 
Vela was named the SAC Player of the Year after leading the Rams to the conference regular season title by finishing the season second in the conference with a .454 batting average and leading the league with 98 hits, 22 doubles, and seven triples. Vela was also third in the conference with 61 runs batted in and third with 62 runs scored.
