John Brown Earns Their Sixth Straight SAC Women's Soccer Tournament Title with a 3-1 Victory over Science & Arts

Siloam Springs, Ark. – Tianna Jones scored a goal and added a pair of assists to propel John Brown University to their sixth consecutive Sooner Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament Championship with a 3-1 victory over Science & Arts on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field in Siloam Springs, Ark.
 
This is the eighth time in program history that the Golden Eagles have claimed the conference tournament crown.
 
The No. 10-ranked Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the ninth minute as Aubrey Winter headed in a pass from Jones that found the left side of the goal to give John Brown an early 1-0 lead. The score remained the same as the Golden Eagles held the No. 17-ranked Drovers to one shot over the first 45 minutes.
 
Julia Lambert scored the eventual game-winner just 25 seconds into the second half as she found the net after passes from Jones and Winter to push the advantage to 2-0. Paula Casajus cut the deficit to a goal in the 62nd minute as she scored off passes from Email Goulas and Ilse de Jong to make the score 2-1. Jones sealed the victory for the Golden Eagles in the 85th minute as she scored an unassisted goal to give John Brown a 3-1 lead.
 
John Brown held an 11-5 advantage in shots, with Winter and Jones each having three shots each, while Marely Fonseca gained the victory between the pipes with two saves as the Golden Eagles improved to 13-2-4 on the season. Clara Rodriguez and Casajus paced the Drovers’ attack with two shots apiece as Science & Arts fell to 13-3-5 on the year.
 
The Golden Eagles have earned the conference’s automatic berth into the NAIA National Tournament, while the Drovers will wait to hear their name called during the selection show that will take place on Friday, November 14, at 6:00 p.m. CT.
