Nelson and Wayland Baptist Lead After Day One of the SAC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Fort Worth, Texas – The first day of the 2025 Sooner Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships saw the Nelson women and the Wayland Baptist men take the lead in the team race, with 10 events in each division set for Saturday at Karen Cramer Stadium on the campus of Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Lions raced out to the lead with 65 points while Panhandle State is sitting in second place with 58 points.  John Brown is just a point behind the Aggies with 57 points, while Oklahoma City is close behind in fourth place with 55 points. Conference newcomers, College of the Ozarks, round out the top five with 53 points as 12 points separate the five teams.

The Pioneers used a sweep of the top three spots in the 10,000-meter run to propel them to the top of the men’s chase with 93 points, while the host Rams are close behind in second place with 87 points. Nelson is currently in third place with 66 points, while Southwestern Christian is in the fourth spot with 43 points. Panhandle State rounds out the top five in the men’s division with 41 points.

The last day of the meet will begin with field events starting at 11 a.m., with the final running events set to begin at 2 p.m. The awards presentation will begin at 4:45 p.m.
