John Brown Claims the 2025 SAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship for the First Time in Program History

Cunningham and Kemp Garner Post-Season Honors

Fort Worth, Texas – The 2025 Sooner Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship came down to the final event of the meet as John Brown used a strong performance in the last relay of the day to garner their first title in program history on Saturday afternoon at Karen Kramer Stadium on the campus of Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth, Texas.
 
The Golden Eagles placed fifth in the 4x400-meter relay to earn four points as they finished the championship with 109 points to edge out Oklahoma City by a point. Langston finished third in the meet with 106 points while Panhandle State earned fourth place with 102 points. Nelson rounded out the top five with 101 points, as only eight points separated the top five schools in one of the closest team title races in championship history.
 
John Brown Head Coach Peter Cunningham earned the conference Coach of the Year award after leading the Golden Eagles to the championship in his first year at the program's helm.
 
Breyanna Kemp of Panhandle State earned the conference’s Most Outstanding Athlete of the Meet as she scored 25.50 points in the championship for the Aggies. Kemp claimed the title in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 25.04 and then earned third place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.70. Kemp was also a key member of three Aggie relay teams as they won the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 47.80, placed third in the 4x800-meter relay with a mark of 10:10.82, and another third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:01.39.
 
All-Conference Honors for all of the events completed this weekend will be announced on Wednesday, April 30, at 2 p.m.
