OKLAHOMA CITY – The Sooner Athletic Conference wrapped up its presentation of the SAC Scholar-Athlete awards, presented by Barnes & Noble College from the league’s softball programs on Friday as 53 student-athletes lauded the honors.
To earn SAC Scholar-Athlete accolades, a student-athlete must maintain at minimum a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average while appearing on the eligibility certificate for an NAIA-recognized sport. The student-athletes must also be at least a junior by academic standing and completed two full years at the nominating institution or one full year as a collegiate transfer.
Overall, Mid-America Christian, who went on to win its first ever National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) championship as well as coming off its best season since joining the SAC in 2008, turned in the most honorees with 11 while Sooner Athletic Conference tournament champion Science & Arts nabbed nine of the awards.
Of the three that maintained a 4.0 GPA through the end of the academic year, the Evangels tallied two with Brookelyn Gilmore and Regan Martin as they were joined by Southwestern Christian’s Madisen Horton.
