Oklahoma City – After a victory over Louisiana Christian Saturday night, OUAZ sweeps this week’s Oklahoma Ford Dealers Sooner Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week honors for the week ending Oct. 22, 2023, announced by the conference office Monday Morning.
 
Luke Giron garnered the league’s Offensive Player of the Week award while Arvell Ferguson grabbed the Defensive honor. Logan Burke earned the Special Teams Award of the season for his efforts this past weekend.
 
Giron aided No. 24 OUAZ in a 27-24 victory over Louisiana Christian by completing 18-of-26 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns including a 77-yard pass that was the second-longest pass given up by the Wildcats this season. Giron also added 53 yards on the ground in seven attempts and finished the night with an 184.4 passing efficiency rating.
 
Other Nominations - Torrence Bardell, Langston, Sal Palermo III, Louisiana Christian, Paul Odidi, SAGU, and Brandon Stephens, Oklahoma Panhandle State.
 
Ferguson was also a key part of the OUAZ victory as he led the Spirit defense with six total tackles and four solo stops on the night. Ferguson added three sacks for 17 yards and 4.5 tackles for a loss in the win over Louisiana Christian.
 
Other Nominations - Darius Coppage, Langston, Andre Reed, Louisiana Christian, Dalton Spencer, SAGU, and Alon Woodberry, Oklahoma Panhandle State.
 
Burke was outstanding in the punting department for OUAZ as he averaged 50 yards per kick with half of those punts being fair caught. Burke placed a pair of punts inside the 10-yard yard line, including one that was downed at the two-yard line with 2:26 remaining in the game.
