OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University snared the top seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference softball tournament set to open 11 a.m. Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium and Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Okla.
Eight teams will square off to decide the league tournament championship with four teams being sent to each site. The two teams remaining will meet in the tournament title game 1 p.m. Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Oklahoma City (40-8, 27-3 SAC) has won or shared the conference regular-season championship seven of the past eight years. The Stars, ranked fifth in the NAIA, face Texas Wesleyan at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Two of the conference's teams own spots among the national top 10 with Science & Arts ranked ninth in the last poll. OCU and Science & Arts have combined for four national championships since 2016. Oklahoma City captured its 11th national crown June 1, 2022 with a 3-0 victory over Mobile (Ala.) in Columbus, Ga., while the Drovers finished third place in the NAIA Softball World Series last year.
The Stars topped Science & Arts 1-0 on May 8, 2022 at Ann Lacy Stadium in the SAC Tournament championship. Kennedy Jackson came through with an RBI double to score Mallory McCoy in the third inning to bring OCU its 20th SAC Tournament title.
