Oklahoma City – Three Sooner Athletic Conference teams have advanced to compete in the 2024 NAIA National Tournaments slated to begin this week. John Brown will compete in the Women’s Soccer Final Site while Oklahoma City will participate in the Men’s Soccer Final 16 with Nelson moving on to the Volleyball Final Site.
The Golden Eagles will travel to the Ashton Brosnaham Soccer Complex in Pensacola, Fla., and will open play at the final site against the University of the Cumberlands on Monday, Dec. 2, with the start time set for 10 a.m. John Brown defeated Central Methodist in the tournament's second round by a score of 3-1 to advance to the final site.
The Stars needed extra time in their second-round match to advance to the Scheels Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan. and will face off against Mobile on Tuesday, Dec. 3, starting at 7 p.m. Oklahoma City needed two overtime sessions to upset No. 11 seed Marian 3-2 to move on in the tournament.
The Lions will join 23 other teams that won their opening-round matches at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa, with pool play starting on Wednesday. Dec. 4. Nelson will face off against Southern Oregon on Dec. 4, and then will play Viterbo the next day as the winners of the eight pools will advance to bracket play. The Lions swept Central Methodist 3-0 in first-round action to advance to the final site.
