Chickasha, Okla. – On Monday, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma announced the hiring of Tony Orsi as the next Men’s Soccer Head Coach, after 18 seasons as USAO’s assistant coach. Orsi becomes the second head coach in program history, following in the footsteps of the legendary Jimmy Hampton.
Orsi has been on the USAO coaching staff since 2007, helping lead the men's soccer team to an incredible win-loss record of 235-102-22 (.655). Throughout his 18 seasons, the Drovers have claimed 10 Sooner Athletic Conference championships (regular season and tournament), and they have made seven appearances in the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship tournament.
He has also served as the head coach of the men's soccer reserve team, leading the Drovers to the first-ever SAC Championship for men's soccer reserve teams.
When asked about the promotion, Orsi said," I am both honored and humbled to be named only the second head coach in program history. I am forever grateful to Coach Jimmy Hampton, as well as all the players and coaches, past and present, who made this program what it is today. I cannot thank President Hale and Athletic Director Mike Ross enough for trusting me with the future of this program. It’s a dream come true, and I am committed to continuing the standard of excellence that is USAO Soccer. Let’s go Drovers!”
“We were extremely fortunate to have Tony Orsi as our head coach, and it is a well-deserved opportunity for someone who has already displayed so much loyalty and contributed so much to the program’s success. His experience, character, and philosophy are exactly what we are looking for in a head coach. I look forward to watching him continue the success for USAO Soccer,” said USAO Athletic Director Mike Ross.
Former head coach Jimmy Hampton said,” There is no one more deserving or more qualified to assume leadership of the USAO Drover Men’s Soccer program. Coach Orsi has been with me nearly every step of the way in building our nationally recognized program. His work ethic, standard of excellence, character, honesty, loyalty, and attention to the process are unparalleled. I have no doubt he will “leave it better” and continue the great tradition of our program. I’m so happy to congratulate Coach Orsi on becoming the next head coach of Drover Men’s Soccer!”
In addition to his experience at USAO, Orsi was the assistant coach for Oklahoma City FC (PDL/NPSL | 2012-13) and assistant coach for the Oklahoma Alliance FC (WPSL | 2008-11).
Prior to beginning his coaching career, Orsi was an all-conference student-athlete and team captain at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (NCAA Div II). He graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree in health/PE/Safety.
