Joya Earns NAIA National Football Special Teams Player of the Week Honors

Oklahoma City – After a record-setting performance this past Saturday, Freddy Joya of Texas Wesleyan has earned NAIA National Football Special Teams Player of the Week as announced by the national office on Monday afternoon. The award is voted on by a panel of institutional and conference sports information directors from around the country.

Joya becomes the first Sooner Athletic Conference football player to earn a national honor this season and the first since Mikele Nash of Langston won the special team award on October 7, 2024.

Joya set a new Texas Wesleyan school record with 19 points in the Rams’ win over Louisiana Christian, as he was a perfect 4-for-4 in field goals with a 34-yard attempt being his longest make of the game. Joya was also a perfect 7-for-7 in extra point attempts in the win, as the Rams are a half-game out of first place in the conference standings.
