Oklahoma City – In a night that saw a lot of scoring and three shutouts, the top four seeds in the 2025 Sooner Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament advanced to the semifinal round that will be played on Saturday, November 8.
No. 1 John Brown 7, No. 8 Wayland Baptist 0
John Brown’s offense exploded in the 46 minutes of the match as the Golden Eagles scored six times over the span en route to a 7-0 victory over Wayland Baptist at Alumni Field in Siloam Springs, Ark., to open the first round of the tournament.
Caitlin Hilson jump-started the Golden Eagles’ attack in the 8
th minute as she slotted a rebound into the lower left side of the goal from three yards out to give John Brown a 1-0 advantage. Aubrey Winter gave the Golden Eagles a 2-0 advantage with just eight seconds in the half off a pass from Katherine Keys, which found the right side of the goal.
The offensive fireworks continued in the second half as Julia Lambert scored her 12
th goal of the year in the 48
th minute to push the score to 3-0. John Brown then scored three goals in four minutes as Keys, Brooklyn Hendricks, and Olivia Fish all scored to give the Golden Eagles a 6-0 lead with just over 17 minutes remaining in the contest. John Brown finished the night as they were credited with an own goal in the 73
rd minute to make the score 7-0.
The Golden Eagles held a 20-4 advantage in shots as Keys led the way with four, while Marley Fonesca earned the win in goal with two saves as John Brown improved to 11-2-4 on the year. Gabriella Chapa paced the Pioneers’ attack with two shots as Wayland Baptist completed the season with an overall record of 5-10-1.
No. 2 Science & Arts 2, No. 7 Nelson 0
Science & Arts scored a pair of goals mid-way through the first half and then turned the game over to their defense as the Drovers defeated Nelson 2-0 at McLaughlin Field in Chickasha, Okla., on Wednesday evening.
Ilse de Jong opened the scoring for the Drovers as she scored in the 14
th minute to put Science & Arts ahead 1-0, as that was the ninth goal of the season for de Jong. Emali Goulas added an insurance goal in the 18
th minute as she found the net for the third time this season to push the Science & Arts advantage to 2-0. The Drovers’ defense then took control of the match as they allowed only five shots in the second half to secure the victory.
Science & Arts held a 25-10 advantage in shots as Dagbjort Gudmundsdottir paced the attack with six shots, while Ashlyn Lonberg claimed the win between the pipes with three save on the night as the Drovers improved to 12-2-5 on the season. Damaris Solis and Azucena Garcia led the way for the Lions with three shots apiece as Nelson finished the year with an 8-8-2 mark.
No. 3 Oklahoma City 3, No. 6 Panhandle State 0
After scoring on an own goal late in the first half, Oklahoma City scored a pair of late goals to collect a 3-0 victory over Panhandle State at Brian Harvey Field in Oklahoma City on Wednesday evening.
The two squads were locked in a defensive battle for the first 40 minutes until a pass deflected off a Panhandle State player into the goal to give Oklahoma City a 1-0 lead heading into the break. The game was once again a defensive chess match until Yami Ponce scored her 11
th goal of the year off a pass from Reese Roberts in the 81
st minute to push the advantage to 2-0. Roberts added her second helper of the night, less than two minutes later, as she connected with Saizlee Carlton for a goal to make the score 3-0.
The Stars held a 20-2 advantage in shots, with Yami Ponce leading the way with four of those, while Candela Blanco gained the victory in goal with one save as Oklahoma City improved to 14-2-2. Emma Contreras and Yaddelis Alderete each had a shot to pace the Aggies as they wrapped up their season with an overall record of 6-7-2.
No. 4 Mid-America Christian 4, No. 5 Southwestern Christian 2
Brae Baker scored a hat-trick, including a pair of goals in the latter stages of the first half, as Mid-America Christian held off late surging Southwestern Christian club 4-2 at Dill Soccer Field in Oklahoma City on Wednesday evening.
Baker jump-started the Evangels late in the first half as she scored two goals in a span of 18 seconds to give Mid-America Christian a 2-0 lead as the teams went to the halftime break. Gladis Avalos scored the eventual game-winner in the 56
thminute off an assist from Caitlin Hirst and Deborah Silveria to make the score 3-0. Baker completed her second hat-trick in as many matches in the 62
nd minute as she scored off a pass from Jasie Eischen to push the advantage to 4-0.
Southwestern Christian battled back as Abbigail Johnson connected on a penalty kick in the 80
th minute to cut the MACU lead to 4-1, while Rachel Foster scored an unassisted goal in the 85
th minute to make the score 4-2 as time ran out on the late match rally for the Eagles.
The Evangels outshot the Eagles 20-8 as Baker finished her evening with eight shots, with five of those being on frame. Ariana Solorio gained the win in goal for MACU with five saves on the night as the Evangels improved to 11-3-3 on the year. Johnson paced the Eagles’ attack with three shots in the match as Southwestern Christian completed the season with an overall record of 12-5-1.
The tournament semifinals will take place on Saturday evening as John Brown will play host to Mid-America Christian in a 6 p.m. start. The two squads played to a 2-2 draw during the final weekend of the regular season. In the second semifinal, Science & Arts will welcome Oklahoma City to Chickasha, Okla., in a 7 p.m. kick. The Drovers claimed the regular season contest by a score of 2-1 back on October 7.
