Oklahoma City and John Brown Advance to the 2025 SAC Men's Soccer Championship Match

Oklahoma City – Oklahoma City raced out to an early lead while John Brown needed to work overtime as the top two seeds advanced to the final of the 2025 Sooner Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament after semifinal action on Friday.

After Francisco Miquel scored a pair of goals in the first 7:14 of the contest, Oklahoma City’s offense exploded for three more goals in the second 45 minutes of the match to claim a spot in the conference championship match with a 5-1 victory over Wayland Baptist on Friday afternoon at Brian Harvey Field in Oklahoma City.
 
Miquel opened the scoring in the second minute and then scored off a steal in the eighth minute to give the Stars the early 2-0 advantage. The score remained that way until just 19 seconds into the start of the second half, as Jamol Williams scored on a breakaway to cut the Pioneers' deficit to 2-1. The Stars answered with two more goals in a stretch of six minutes as Ethan Taylor scored off a header in the 52nd minute, with Harrison Knight scoring in the 58th minute to push the score to 4-1. Sage Trevino added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to propel the Stars to the conference title match.
 
Oklahoma City held a 20-14 advantage in shots, with Miquel having five shots in the match, while Alexis Bertrand earned the win between the pipes with two saves as the Stars improved to 13-3-4 on the year. Francis Motsi paced the Wayland Baptist attack with five shots as the Pioneers completed the season with an overall record of 8-6-2.

John Brown scored a late goal and then scored late in the first overtime period to rally from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Mid-America Christian 2-1 on Friday evening at Alumni Field in Siloam Springs, Ark.
 
The two teams used their defense in the first 45 minutes of the match, as they went to the break on a scoreless tie. John Brown held a 4-2 advantage in shots while putting four of those on frame. The Evangels broke through in the 50th minute as Federico Palacios found the left side of the goal off a free kick from 21 yards that gave MACU a 1-0 lead. 
The Golden Eagles drew the game even with 3:14 left in regulation as Alejandro Gallardo converted a penalty kick after an Evangels foul in the box to make the score 1-1. John Brown claimed the victory in the 98th minute as Gabriel Cabrera chipped a shot into the left corner of the goal from 23 yards out on the right wing to propel the Golden Eagles to the conference final for the first time since 2019.
 
John Brown held a slight 8-7 advantage in shots, with Gallardo and Braeden Templin each having two shots, while Adam Tebbs earned the win in goal with a pair of saves as the Golden Eagles improved to 12-3-4 on the year. Haruya Higuchi paced the Evangels attack with two shots as MACU wrapped up their season with an overall record of 8-8-4.
 
The championship match will take place on Monday, November 10, at Brian Harvey Field in Oklahoma City, starting at 7 p.m. The two teams played to a 2-2 draw in their regular-season contest back on October 28.
