Oklahoma City – Brendon Vela and Samuel Mendez of Texas Wesleyan have been named this week’s Sooner Athletic Conference Netting Pros Baseball Player of the Week awards for their efforts over the past week, as announced by the conference office Monday morning.
Vela paced the Rams to a 5-0 record last week by going 6-of-14 at the plate for a batting average of .429 with six extra base hits. Vela had a pair of doubles, a triple, and three home runs over the span with 11 runs batted in, while scoring seven times himself. Vela had 19 total bases with an on-base percentage of .467 and a slugging percentage of 1.357 during the week.

Mendez had an outstanding outing for the Rams as he tossed a complete-game one-hitter in a 2-0 win over Park-Gilbert. Mendez had eight strikeouts and allowed only one walk in the win. Mendez finished the contest with a .33 WHIP and a 0.00 earned run average.
