Ypsilanti, Mich. – After taking the lead late in the second round and maintaining the advantage through her final round, Texas Wesleyan’s Makena Junkin emerged as the individual medalist at the 2026 NAIA Women’s Golf Championships, held at Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Mich.
This is Junkin’s first national title, making her the sixth Sooner Athletic Conference women’s golfer and the first Texas Wesleyan looper to claim the individual title.
Junkin held a one-stroke advantage after the second round, firing a one-over-par score of 73 to stay one shot clear of a four-way tie for second at four-over-par. Junkin carded another one-over-par score of 73 to enter the clubhouse with the lead at four-over-par and needed to wait until the final group of golfers completed their rounds to claim the title by a shot over the No. 1-ranked golfer in the nation.
Junkin led the field in total pars with 42 while playing the par fours with a scoring average of 4.13 and the par fives with an average of 4.83.
Junkin’s efforts aided the Rams to a 10
th-place finish in the team event as they fired rounds of 321-303-322 for a score of 946.
