Oklahoma City – After aiding Texas Wesleyan to a runner-up finish at the 2025 Sooner Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship earlier this week, Makena Junkin has been named this season’s Golfer of the Year as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Ellen Lonergan of Wayland Baptist was named the conference Freshman of the Year, while Josh Gorzney of Oklahoma City claimed the league’s Coach of the Year award.
Junkin earned this year’s award by ranking 15
th in the country with a scoring average of 73 and was third at the conference tournament with a nine-over-par score of 225. Junkin also won five tournament titles this season.
Lonergan had an outstanding freshman campaign, by having a scoring average of 80, as she had three top-three finishes. Lonergan wrapped up the season with an 18
th-place finish at the conference tournament.
Gorzney led the Stars to their fourth consecutive conference tournament, as Oklahoma City will enter the NAIA National Tournament ranked sixth in the country.
