Silvis, Ill. – Science & Arts grabbed the first-round lead in the 74
th Annual NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship being held at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. This is the first time that the Drovers are taking part in the national tournament.
Oklahoma City is also in the tournament and is currently in a tie for third place after the first round.
The Drovers fired an opening round of 281, one-under-par, to take a seven-stroke advantage over Hastings into the second round. Lindsey Wilson and Oklahoma City are nine strokes behind Science & Arts.
Jaeden Ellis and Jaxen Brewer are tied atop the leaderboard in the individual event after each shot a two-under-par score of 68. Ellis wrapped up the opening round with six birdies, while Brewer finished with four birdies on the par-70 course that hosts the PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic each year.
Carter Ray of Oklahoma City is also tied for first after firing a two-under-par score of 68, as he also had four birdies on his round. Christian Yanovitch is currently tied for 13
th after a one-over-par round of 71.
The second round begins at 7 a.m. CT this morning.
Following today’s second round, the top 15 teams and ties and the top six individuals not on a top-15 team advance to the third and fourth rounds. The final round is scheduled for Friday, May 15.
